Animals

Learning Through Experience

Fairytale Town has a variety of animals to provide interactive learning opportunities for visiting children. Our animals are as unique as our park; each is selected for unusual characteristics such as size, coat texture or country of origin. Some of our animals are listed in the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.

Fairytale Town’s family of farm animals are out in their corrals when the park opens. In the afternoon, animal feedings usually begin between 3:30PM and 4PM and they are put away for the night. They are also often brought out on the lawn or to the Story Center by our animal keepers during the day so children can see them up close during animal introductions.

Animal Introductions

Keep an eye out around the park for our Animal Introductions, where we bring animals out of their cages to meet you! Watch for a schedule of upcoming activities to say hello to our animal family up-close.

Mary’s Little Lambs

Visit the three beautiful Southdown sheep that live in the schoolhouse, where Mary brought her lamb one day. Their names are Carl (Ram with black wool) and Ellie (Ewe with white wool), and their daughter is Poppyseed.
At this set, children learn that sheep provide us with lanolin and wool by examining their fluffy white and black wool. The oily coating you feel when you pet sheep is lanolin, a moisturizing oil often used in hand lotions and soaps.

Peter Rabbit’s Sisters

Beatrix Potter’s beloved tale of a misbehaving boy rabbit and his good little sisters has a permanent home next to the Children’s Theater. You may notice they’re a little bigger than most rabbits; this is because they are all Flemish Giants. These are some of the biggest rabbits in the world! Peter is off in Fairytale Town on an adventure; keep an eye out for him around town.
The original illustrations from Beatrix Potter’s beloved stories served as inspiration for their Tudor-style house and picket fence. It includes an air conditioning system, plenty of windows, and a suspended flooring system. The enclosure also features a miniature Mr. McGregor’s Garden, where Animal Keepers can grow vegetables for the rabbits to enjoy. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Griffiths Family for making the rabbits’ home a reality. Thanks also to Berry Lumber for their generous donation of redwood.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

These three Nigerian Dwarfs bring this tale of bravery and family solidarity to life. Their names are Pistachio, Pecan, and Cashew! They live near Cinderella’s Coach and have plenty of things to climb all day long. You can also measure your own height against a giant ruler that shows how high some goats can jump.

The Three Little Pigs

The brick house that withstood the wolf’s huffing and puffing is now home to three Kunekune (“KOO-KNEE KOO-KNEE”) pigs. Kunekune pigs have unique appendages called wattles. These are similar to goat wattles and hang just under the jowl. They are called “Piri Piri” in their original land of New Zealand. Here, you will find Porcini, Enoki, and Truffle, our newest additions to the Fairytale Town family! These three little pigs love to lay around in the sun and munch on their favorite treats. You might see them walking around the park with one of our animal keepers during our piggy parades!

Farmer Brown’s Barn

The home of the Little Red Hen House, Charlotte the Spider, Clementine the green iguana, Ferdinand the gentle bull, and Dory the miniature horse.
